Abstract

301,966. Hornsby, H. May 25, 1928. Rollers, land, garden, and road.-The engine 1 of a power-driven roller is mounted wholly within the roller on a weighted body 2 freely suspended from the roller axle 4, power being transmitted to the shell 5 of the roller through friction rollers located within it and controlled by movement of the handle 7. For driving in one direction the handle is moved so as to turn the axle and bring a friction roller 8, carried by spring arms 10, into engagement with the interior of the shell 5 and with a roller 12 driven from the engine 1 through gearing 13. To reverse the direction of motion the handle is thrown over so as to bring another spring-mounted roller 9 into engagement with the interior of the shell 5 and with a friction roller 11 driven by the roller 12. The fuel tank is mounted over the gear box and the carburetter control wires pass through the axle 4 and one of the handle-bars 6
