Aerostats.-Those gas cells 14 of rigid airships which are arranged between the transverse frame rings 11 have inwardly bulged walls 15, 16 enclosing gas spaces 17 which are rendered gas tight by strips 20 extending across the inner circumference of the frame rings. The inner ridges of the rings are connected by separate strips to adjacent points on the walls 15, 16. The spaces 17 are maintained at a higher pressure than the cells 14, valves 24 being provided on the walls 15 to relieve excessive pressure..Blow-off valves 25 are provided also on the cells 14. The walls 15, 16 are of stouter material than the rest of the cells as they act as bulkheads to prevent displacement of the gas when the airship tilts. To allow for deflation of the cells 14, a fold 21 may be provided in the material of the lower wall of each cell supported from the upper part of the airship by a cord or wire 22.
