Chests of drawers; drawer fittings. - In a pedestal desk, each pedestal, Fig. 5, consists of a rectangular sheet-metal base frame, with horizontal flanges 1 and moulded vertical flanges 2 receiving wooden sides 4 with incurved ends 5, and a wooden base plate 6, above which is fitted a drawer-supporting frame made of sheetmetal. This is surmounted by a frame 26, and two such pedestals support an ordinary desk top with a central drawer. The drawer-supporting frame consists of sheet-metal corner posts 7, with flanges 8, 9, connected by drawer-runners 11 at the sides and by V-section cross-bars 14 at the front. The drawer-runners 11 have vertical flanges 10, and are of the cross-section shown in Fig. 4. Near the rear ends the runners 11 are connected by similarly-sectioned cross-bars 21, 22. In each of the corner posts 7 is bolted an angle-bar 15, and on the inner side of each of the rear posts 7 is spot-welded a channel-iron 18. Between the edges of the parts 7, 15 are secured the incurved edges of the panels 5, and in the parts 18 are set the edges of the back panel 25. All these parts are secured together by vertical tie rods 30, and are supported on legs 31.
