Linings, coatings, and coverings.-To prevent deterioration of the contents as a result of catalytic or other interaction with the tinned surface of the ordinary container, the inner surfaces of cans for ether are rendered "passive" by oxidizing the tin coating by treatment with a solution of potassium permanganate or other oxidizing agent, or by heating or electrolysis. The treatment may be applied to the finished cans or to the metal sheets from which they are made. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the coating of the tin or other surface with a varnish insoluble in ether or with an inert metal such as lead. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
