Lubricants.-Loaded rifle cartridges are coated with a thin film of hard wax, which serves not only to form a protective covering but also acts as a lubricant to facilitate extraction of the cartridges from a gun after firing. Ceresin, applied in solution, e.g. in carbon tetrachloride, is preferably used; the solvent is allowed to evaporate.
