Abstract
292,392. Leahy, R. A. Sept. 12, 1927. Fixed sieves.-The screening medium A is moved intermittently in one direction by the action of a pulsating column D of liquid and means are provided to impart to the medium a quick return movement and sudden stop. In the construction shown, the screening medium is adjustably tensioned between a fixed and a movable support 4, 5 and is connected to a bar B by means of a rigid transverse member J. Pulsations are imparted to the liquid column bv a rotating cam F and piston G and transmitted to the end of the bar B which works in a cylinder C. The return movement is caused by a spring E and the sudden arrest of this movement by a collar 1 on the bar B engaging an abutment 2 on a fixed cross-bar 3. Alternatively, the return movement may be obtained by a second liquid transmission device or by the natural resiliency of the tensioned screening member, and the piston and cylinder arrangement may be replaced by flexible diaphragms. The invention is shown applied to the actuation of a battery of screens from a single source of power.
