Abstract
297,216. MacFadden, R. R. Sept. 14, 1927. Dynamometers.-A device for measuring a small movement or a thrust by transmitting the latter through liquid to a pressure gauge employs a flexible diaphragm of the kind reinforced by radially arranged plates, and the movements to the diaphragm are conveyed by a stem or equivalent having a sliding action. The flexible diaphragm 7 covered on the outer surface by sectional plates 17 spaced a little apart is clamped at the edge between a ring 5 and the block 2 by screws 6 passing through a cover 1 screwed to the block. The rod or stem 4 acted upon by the force or weight to be measured passes through a plate 3 screwed to the cover 1 and is provided with a rib 8 under which the inner ends of upper radial plates 9 engage. The' outer ends of these plates are provided with circular bosses 10 engaging in a recess 11 on the ring 5. Attached to the end of the stem is a block 12 in which the inner ends of the lower radial plates 13 are pivotally arranged while the outer ends are tapered and have sliding movement under the plates 9 when the diaphragm moves. The plates 13 carry studs 14 fitting into slots 15 in the plates 9 and serving to keep the plates in correct relative position. The pressure is transmitted to a gauge through liquid in a conduit 16. In a modification the plates 13 alone are provided, the outer ends sliding in the ring 5. Specification 259,490, [Class 143, Weighing-apparatus], is referred to.
