Abstract
296,159. Bassler, E. M. June 28, 1927. Scrubbers and washers.-Gas washing apparatus comprises a main housing A into which gas is delivered by a pipe 5, washed gas escaping through opposed slots 9 in its side walls communicating with a bustle pipe 10. A spraying wheel B mounted below the admission opening 4 comprises a disc 12 with a conical central projection 13 and diverging pins 14 which extend across a restricted opening 16 between the top wall 3 of the housing and the disc. A water jet is discharged against the apex of the projection 13 from a nozzle 18 of large bore and the disc is rotated by means of a belt and a driving pulley 31 on its shaft 26. An annular plate 17 surrounds the disc and extends below it so as to baffle the mixture of gas and water projected by the disc. Water and solids are drained from the housing into a settling tank 23 from which water is returned to the nozzle 18 by a pump 22. The conical projections 13 may be dispensed with. Additional water may be supplied to the disc through a pipe 32 at a distance from the centre should too coarse a spray be produced by passage of the water from the central jet.
