Abstract
295,857. Wade, H., (International Nickel Co.). Oct. 11, 1927. Alloys.-An improved wrought iron is obtained by adding to normal wrought iron substantially pure nickel. The may be added as pig or shot, preferably while the charge is still molten before puddling. The nickel may be added to cast or pig iron in process of converting to wrought iron, or the bottom material of a furnace consisting of non-oxide may be replaced in part by nickel oxide. In another process, a low carbon steel is produced in one furnace, and in a second a slag high in iron-oxide. The slag is poured into the ingot mould and then the steel is poured into the slag. Up to 20 per cent of copper, chromium, or molybdenum may be added. The alloy may contain up to 0.08 per cent of carbon and 0.25-5 per cent of nickel. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 5015/11, 28440/13, 224,941, and 260,789.
