Swabs and hobders therefor.-A device for cleaning the teeth and mouth comprises a handle 1, Fig. 1, and a detachable carrier 3, Fig. 2, consisting of, or impregnated with, cleaning media and intended to be used once only. The carrier may consist of an insoluble substance, such as wadding, felt, fabric, paper, or fibrous &c. substances such as aloes hemp. In the second case, the carrier is impregnated with the cleansing or disinfecting material. When employing a carrier of wadding, one side may be made softer for cleaning and rubbing the gums. The handle may be two pronged, as in Fig. 1, or may consist of wire, as in Fig. 6, with a constricting ring 9 which can be lodged as shown or in indents 1c, 1a to retain the carrier between prongs 2a, 2b. In a further modification, a handle 1, Fig. 7, has spring arms to engage in a slot in a carrier 3, Fig. 8, the interior of which is hardened as by varnish to hold the handle. The carriers vary in form. That in Fig. 3 is similar to a brush but may be provided with a strip 4 instead of bristles. In Fig. 5, the carrier has a wood core 5, wadding 6. a layer of bristles 7, and an outer layer of wadding 8. In Fig. 8, the carrier is of impregnated wadding with. ribs 3c.
