Abstract
285,561. Handley, A. C. Nov. 17, 1926. Scrubbers and washers. - A body of coir fibre detachably mounted in an openwork holder which can be readily taken apart for insertion and removal of the fibre constitutes a filter unit, which may be moistened, and is combined with others to form a cellular filter. Fig. 1 shows apparatus in which the coir is contained between expanded metal plates D within open frames A, B bolted together. In a modification, one frame is flat and this frame and one of the openwork sheets are bolted together on a flange on the other frame. Perforated metal, wire netting or gauze, or coconut matting asbestos cloth &c. may replace the expanded metal. Fig. 6 shows a moistening apparatus comprising a frame G into which the filtering units, which may consist of a pair of expanded metal plates bolted together with the fibre between them, the edges being unenclosed, are fitted. Water supply and discharge pipes H, J are provided. Fig. 9 shows a cage filter formed by units detachably mounted between T and angle irons on a raised floor in a hut. Air enters the outer space, where dust is deposited, and escapes by chimneys leading from the interior of the filter cage.
