Hand-shears for hedge clipping &c. have faces 3 which abut when the shears are closed, and both blades 4 are hollow-ground from the ends 2 of the blades to the parts 5 near the pivot. The overlapping portions in the region of the pivot 7 are inclined as at 6, Fig. 3, so that the edges of the blade rub against each other and are selfsharpening.
