Description

A GLOVE FOR APPLYING A TANNING LIQUID TO A PERSON'S SKIN
FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a glove and, more especially, this invention relates to a glove suitable for applying a tanning liquid to a person's skin.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A person may apply a tanning liquid to their own skin or to the skin of another person. The person applying the tanning liquid needs to protect their hands from staining by the tanning liquid.
Protective gloves made of a thin plastic material are well known. These gloves are for general purposes for protecting the person's hand from unwanted substances. These gloves may thus be used for protecting a person's hands whilst applying a tanning liquid. However, if the gloves are used to apply the tanning liquid, the tanning liquid may not be evenly spread and the person acquires an uneven tan which is visually undesirable.
It is an aim of the present invention to avoid or reduce the above mentioned problem.
STATEMENTS OF INVENTION
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a glove suitable for applying a liquid to a person's skin; the glove comprising: i. discrete finger receiving portions; ii. a thumb receiving portion; iii. the finger receiving portions and the thumb receiving portion having an inner surface locatable on the palm side of the glove; and; iv. web portions between each of the finger receiving portions and thumb receiving portion; and wherein; v. the web portions are level with the inner surface of the fingers and the thumb receiving portions; vi. the web portions and the inner surfaces of the fingers and the thumb receiving portions form an application surface which is able to uniformly spread the liquid over a person's skin.
The glove of the present invention is thus advantageous in that the fingers and thumb give good sensitivity, which is essential for the even spreading of the tanning liquid. This sensitivity may be greater than if the glove were to be in the form of a mitten. Additionally, the glove is advantageous in that the application surface helps to give the required good even spreading because the application surface does not contain the channel portions.
The glove may be one in which the web portions form part of one continuous application surface. Alternatively, the glove may be one in which the web portions are separately formed from each other such that there are individual ones of the web portions between the fingers and the thumb.
The glove may include spreader formations for facilitating the spreading of the tanning liquid. The spreader formations may be on an inner face of the fingers and/or the thumb and/or the web portions. Alternatively, or additionally, the spreader formations may be on other parts of the glove. The spreader formations may be soft bristle formations. The spreader formations may be other formations. The spreader formations may be made from the same material as the rest of the glove or they may be made from a different material.
The glove may comprise a wrist portion for having an opening for receiving a hand of a person applying the tanning liquid. The wrist portion may be regarded as a cuff or a sleeve. The opening may be defined by a circumferential rib. The circumferential rib may be a bead.
The glove may be made of a plastics material. The plastics material may be of the same thickness for all parts of the glove. However, if desired, different parts of the glove may be of different thicknesses so that, for example, the web portions may be thinner or thicker than other parts of the glove. Producing the glove such that all parts of the glove have the same thickness may provide for optimum sensitivity and optimum evenness of spreading. The plastics material may be as thick as in known plastics gloves.
The gloves may be one which does not have a circumferential rib around the opening.
Alternatively, the glove may be one which comprises a circumferential rib around the opening.
The plastics material may be a latex material. Other plastics materials may be employed if desired.
Typically, the plastics material will be as thin as in known plastics gloves.
The gloves may be one which does not have a circumferential rib around the opening.
Alternatively, the glove may be one which comprises a circumferential rib around the opening.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Embodiments of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a view from the inner face of a first glove of the present invention; Figure 2 is a rear view of the glove as shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a view from an inner face of a second glove of the present invention; Figure 4 is a rear view of the glove as shown in Figure 3; and Figure 5 is a view from the inner of a known glove; and Figure 6 shows part of a third glove of the present invention and illustrates an optional feature of spreader formations.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, there is shown a first glove 2 which is of the present invention and which is for applying a tanning liquid to a person's skin. The glove 2 comprises fingers 4, a thumb 6 and web portions 8 between the fingers 4 and the thumb 6.
The web portions 8 are level with the inner surfaces 10 of the fingers 4 and the thumb 6. The web portions 8 and the inner surfaces of the fingers and the thumb 6 form an application surface 12 which is able uniformly to spread the tanning liquid over the person's skin.
The application surface 12 does not contain channel portions which are able to receive the tanning liquid and which would be formed if the web portions 8 were not level with the inner surfaces 10 of the fingers 4 and the thumb 6.
The glove 2 comprises a wrist portion 14 having an opening 16 for receiving a hand (not shown) of a person applying the tanning liquid. The person applying the tanning liquid may be the person who is receiving the tanning liquid. Alternatively, the persons applying the tanning liquid may be a first person applying the tanning liquid to a second person, for example to the back of the second person.
The glove 2 may be one in which the opening 16 is not defined by a circumferential rib. This may make the glove 2 easier and cheaper to produce. If desired however the opening 16 in the glove 2 may be defined by a circumferential rib, for example forming a beaded wrist portion 14 for the glove 2.
The glove 2 may be made of a plastics material. The plastics material is preferably of the same thickness for all parts of the glove 2. This may facilitate production of the glove 2, and it may also provide optimum sensitivity for the person applying the tanning liquid. The glove 2 may alternatively be such that different parts of the glove 2 are of thicknesses. In this case, for example, the web portions 8 may be thicker or thinner than the other portions of the glove 2.
The plastics material is preferably a latex material. Other plastics materials may be employed.
Referring now to Figures 3 and 4, there is shown a second glove 18 of the present invention. Figures 3 and 4 are like Figures 1 and 2 and similar parts in the gloves 2, 18 have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding.
In the glove 2 as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the web portions 8 form part of one continuous application surface. In the glove 18 and as shown in Figures 3 and 4, the web portions 8 are separately formed from each other such that there are individual ones of the web portions 8 between the fingers 4 and the thumb 6. Thus, the application surface in the glove 18 is formed of a plurality of separate sections.
Referring to Figure 5, there is shown a known glove 20. Similar parts as in the gloves 2, 18 of the present invention have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding. In the known glove 2, it will be seen that the web portions 8 extend between the middle of the thickness of the fingers 4 and the thumb 6. This causes the glove 20 to have an application surface 22 which contains channel portions 24. The channel portions 24 are able to receive the tanning liquid. The channel portions 24 are formed by the web portions 8 not being level with the inner surfaces 10 of the fingers 4 and the thumb 6. If the glove 20 were to be used for applying a tanning liquid, then the tanning liquid would not be as evenly spread over the person's skin as would be the case with the gloves 2, 18 of the present invention.
The known glove 20 may be of a type that is well known for use in swimming for increasing the speed with which a person is able to swim. Such known swimming gloves would not be suitable for applying a tanning liquid to a person's skin because these known swimming gloves would be too thick and insufficiently sensitive for use in the optimal application of a tanning liquid to a person's skin. Webbed glove for other uses are also known but, where these known webbed gloves might be suitable for applying a tanning liquid to a person's skin, then these known gloves would not be as advantageous as the glove of the present invention because the known gloves would have the channel portions 24 and they would give an uneven application of the tanning liquid to the person's skin.
Referring to Figure 6, there is shown a part 26 of a third glove of the present invention. The part 26 comprises spread formation 28 in the form of soft bristles formed on the fingers 4 and/or the web portions 8 of the glove.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiments of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings have been given by way of example only and that modifications may be affected. Thus, for example, the shape of gloves 2, 18 may be varied, for example by increasing or decreasing the length of the wrist portion 14. Individual components shown in the drawings are not limited to use in their drawings and they may be used in other drawings and in all aspects of the invention. The invention also extends to the individual components mentioned and/or shown above, taken singly or in any combination.
