Grates.-A removable grate 1 with legs 2 is provided with two rearwardly-inclined slots 6 in which are pivotally mounted removable raised side pieces 3, which extend substantially over the whole length from back to front of the side of the grate, so that they may be adjusted to fit directly against the sides of fireplaces of various widths and angularity. The side pieces are pivoted by means of bolts 16 passing through lugs 5 and preferably provided underneath with fly-nuts. A back 4, in one or two pieces, may be adjustably connected to the grate in a similar way so as to slide backwards and forwards to fit fire-places of various depths. The side pieces and back may be solid or provided with teeth or bars 14, and their adjacent ends may be bevelled. A movable front 11 may be secured to the grate by means of a T-shaped lug 12 on the front or grate adapted to be inserted in a correspondingly shaped slot 13 in the grate or front respectively, or by means of a removable pin adapted to be inserted in slots in both the front and the grate.
