Ash - trays ; cigarette rests.-A matchbox, a cigarette lighter, or a cigarette case 3 having a lid 4, is hinged at one end to a casing 1 into which it can be folded, the casing constituting an ashtray and having a discharge opening controlled by a lid 11 that is independent of the match-box &c. The opening is at the opposite end of the casing to that to which the box is hinged and the lid may itself be formed as an ash-receptacle, hinged to the casing and retained by means of a spring catch 13. Grooves 15 constituting a cigarette rest are provided in the upper surface of the receptacle 11. Both the lid 4 and end 7 of the match-box 3 are connected by spring-controlled hinges, the end 7 being formed with a bead 8 for engaging the free end. of the lid 4. The bead may not extend entirely across the width of the box, but in such a case the end of the lid is formed with corresponding portions 9 to give a uniform appearance. Theash discharge opening may be at either side or in the bottom of the casing. The ash-receptacle 11 and casing 1 may be in one piece, the whole or part of the underside being hinged. Ash-space may be provided all around the match-box &c. when the latter is in its closed position. A match-striking surface, a mirror, a holder forpapier poudre, or a memorandum tablet may also be combined with the device. The ash-tray may be provided with a removable lining; and a foldable clip for supporting purposes may be attached.
