Abstract

266,810. Hern, F. F., Hern, A. B. F., and Hern, A. H. F. Dec. 2, 1925. Linkage load-handling appliances. - A lifting- jack of the lazy tongs type has pairs of toggle links the upper and lower ends of which are crossed and are connected to the crutch and base at equally spaced points and operated by screw and nut mechanism and has pairs of steadying links connected to the screw and nut mechanism and by pin and slot connections to the crutch and base. The lifting links 6, 7 are crossed at their upper and lower ends and are connected to the crutch 5 and base 3 at equally spaced points 8, 9 and to trunnions 11, 13 on a nut 10 and collar 12 engaging with a screwed shaft 14 having a fitting 16 for an operating handle. The pairs of steadying links 18, 19 are pivoted on the trunnions 11, 13 and have pin and slot connections 20, 21 to the crutch and base, respectively. The crutch may be formed of aluminium and have slotted steel plates cast in or riveted thereto.
