Abstract
266,182. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Hartford-Empire Co.). May 31, 1926. Rolling.-A method of forming sheet glass in a continuous strip consists in directing a stream of molten glass against an upwardly moving surface on which it spreads out laterally, under the action of gravity, and forms a layer of substantially equal thickness to that of the finished sheet. The stream of glass flows from a spout 5 on to the surface of a roller 8, and is carried beneath another roller 9 by which it is formed into a continuous sheet 10. The flow of glass to the spout is controlled by a gate 7 having its lower edge rounded. The roll 8 is so mounted that the stream of glass is carried upwards to the roll 9, and spreads out laterally in the space between the spout and the roll.
