Abstract
266,028. British Cyanides, Ltd., and Rossiter, E. C. Nov. 5, 1925. Condensation products of urea and thiourea with formaldehyde.-Artificial resins are prepared by condensing a mixture of urea and thiourea with formaldehyde, or by separately condensing the starting materials to the initial water-soluble stage and mixing the solution. Clear solutions result when equivalents of urea up to 25 per cent of the thiourea are employed; with higher proportions, turbid products are obtained. The turbidity may, however, be reduced bv the addition of a little ammonia. The solutions are transformed by heat into insoluble resins. According to the example, a mixture of urea and thiourea is heated with formalin; the temperature is raised and air blown through to complete the condensation. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 248,477.
