Dry processes of refining lead; metals, powdered, obtaining coherent masses from. - In a process for the recovery of zinc and zinc compounds from the blue powder residues of lead refining by treatment with zinc chloride, the slag formed is heated, preferably by rabbling at a red heat, to separate and collect zinc chloride and other volatilizable products, and the recovered zinc chloride is reused for the treatment of further blue powder residues. The zinc which is recovered may contain lead, copper, gold, and silver and may be used for desilverizing lead by the Parke's process. The residue remaining after heating the slag consists of zinc oxide containing traces of lead, copper, gold, and silver, and may be used for the production of spelter.
