Abstract

265,025. Millspaugh, W. H. March 13,1926. Discharging.-For discharging the water of condensation, a rotary steam drum, used as a drier in paper or textile manufacture, has an evacuator consisting of a conduit with a curved scoop adjacent the drum to convey the water to a hollow shaft. Ends 11 are secured to the drum 10 by hooked bolts 12, and the drum is strengthened by conical members 18, which have flanges 19 bolted to a spider 22 at the centre of the drum. The ends 25 of the conical members are bolted to the end plates 11. The evacuation shown in Figs. 1 and 2 consists of a hollow arm 40 supported loosely on one of the conical members 18 and maintained in a vertical position by a weight 42. The arm 40 has a flared mouth or scoop 44, which may be sufficiently wide to reach to the stiffening spider 26. The drum is rotated at high speed and steam is admitted through the hollow shaft 15. The steam passes through holes in the shaft and the conical members 18 into the drum. The condensed water is thrown, by centrifugal force, to the wall of the drum and is collected by the scoop 44, from whence it passes through the arm 40 and openings 46, 47 in the members 18, 15 aa these come into register with the arm once in each revolution.
