Abstract

259,765. Mellor, P. H. Oct. 20, 1925. Linings.-The rear corners of a locomotive firebox are protected from erosion of the gases and ashes swept along thereby by means of fire-brick slabs 10, 11, Figs. 2 and 3, each composed of three parts 12, 13, 14 with upwardly inclined joints 15, 16 between them. Projections 17, 18 at the top and bottom of each slab engage the side wall of the fire-box and shoulders 19 on the component parts of each slab abut against the front edge of the flange 6. The slabs are reinforced by rods 24, 25, 26 provided with nuts at their ends to hold the parts of the slabs together. Recesses 30, 31 are provided in the upper and lower ends of the slabs for the reception of studs and protecting washers 32, 36, Fig. 4, for securing the slabs to the fire-box.
