Abstract
The swarf collector 1, for use when drilling a hole in a panel (5, Figure 2), includes a swarf collecting bin 2 having an inlet opening 3. A connector 4 demountably secures the bin on the panel, with the inlet opening closed by the panel. When drilling through the panel, swarf generated by the drilling is collected within the bin on the opposite side of the panel. The connector may be magnetic and mounted at a rim of the bin which forms the inlet opening. The connector may have a two-part construction with a mounting ring (21, Figure 3) clamping the bin to the panel from opposite sides. The bin may have a removable cover (32, Figure 5) at an inner end, along with a further magnet 34 to attract and attach to the swarf. The panel may be part of a metal electrical cabinet.

This inventio.n relates to a swarf *collector for use in collecting swarf generated when drilling metal cabinets, panels or fittings, When drilling metal panels or metal fittings swarf is generated by the drill-bit. This becomes a problem when the metal panel is part of an electrical cabinet, for example, as the swarf generated gives rise to a risk of a short-circuit Accordingly, the electrical cabinet must be switched off during the drilling process and afterwards any swarf generated by the drilling must be collected from the cabinet before the electrical cabinet is switched on again, Switching off the electrical cabinet even for relatively short periods may be veiy. inconvenient Also, ensuring all scarf generated has been collected is not always easy as it may be thrown away from the drilling site by the action of the drill, Swart gene-rated by the drill/no is also a hazard to the person drilling tie hole in the panel.

Summary of the Invention
According to the invention there is provided a swarf collector for use when drilling a hole in a panel, the swarf collector comprising a.swad collecting bin having an inlet opening and a connector *for demountably securing the bin on the panel with the bin inlet opening dosed by the panel, Thus, conveniently, the sweet collector can be mounted on a panel at a drilling site prior to drilling and secured on the panel on an inside face of the panel so that a hole can be drilled through the panel with any swarf generated by the drilling being collected with the bln.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments
Referring to the drawings, and in initially to Figs. I and 2 thereof, there is illustrated swarf collector according to me invention indicated generally by the reference numeral 1. The swarf collector 1 comprises a snail collecting bin 2 having an inlet opening 3 and a connector, indicated generally by the reference numeral *4 for demountably securing the bin 2 on a panel 5 with the bin inlet opening 3 dosed by the panel 5, Thus, when drilling through the. panel 5 (as indicated at A in Fig. 2) swarf generated by the drilling is collected within the bin 2.

It is also envisaged that a similar collector might be used in other drilling applications, such as drilling piaster panels, for example, where it is desirable to contain dust and other waste material generated by the drilling action. Again, this would be desirable particularly in cleanmom environments.
