Abstract

A drinking vessel (202, 2, 302, 304), such as a mug or wine glass, for containing hot or cold beverages, the vessel comprising a rim (10, 210, 310) extending around an open end (306) of a cup portion (204, 304, 4), a spout base portion (12, 212, 312B, 312) in communication with the rim (10, 210, 310), and a spout (14, 212, 214) connected to, and extending away from the spout base portion (12, 212, 312B, 312) and the cup portion (204, 304, 4), wherein a fluid pathway is enabled to allow a beverage in the cup portion (204, 304, 4) to be drunk by a user through the spout (14, 212, 214), whilst minimising contact of the beverage with, and thereby limiting damage such as staining and acid damage to, the user's front teeth.

Claims (15)

1. A drinking vessel comprising a cup portion defined by a wall and having a first end and a second, closed end remote from the first end, a rim extending around the first end of the cup portion, a spout base portion in communication with the rim, and a spout connected to, and extending away from the spout base portion and the cup portion; wherein the spout comprises a first spout opening proximate to the spout base portion, and a second spout opening remote from the spout base portion, wherein a spout channel between the first spout opening and the second spout opening defines a spout fluid pathway; wherein a first cross-sectional area is defined at the first end of the cup portion, and wherein the spout base portion extends across part of the first cross-sectional area.
2. A drinking vessel as claimed in claim 1 wherein the spout base portion extends across less than half of the first cross-sectional area.
3. A drinking vessel as claimed in claim 2 wherein the spout base portion extends across 10- 15% of the first cross-sectional area.
4. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of the preceding claims 4 wherein a spout axis, defined between a central point of the first opening of the spout and a central point of the second opening of the spout, is non-orthogonal to a central longitudinal axis of the drinking vessel, and optionally wherein the spout axis is at 30° to the central longitudinal axis of the drinking vessel.
5. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the spout defines a spout extension length, between a central point of the first opening of the spout and a central point of the second opening of the spout, of between 2cm and 4 cm.
6. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the spout channel has a constant cross-sectional area.
7. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the first opening of the spout and the second opening of the spout are in the shape of a rounded-corner rectangle or an oval.
8. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of preceding claims wherein the spout is formed integrally with the spout base and/or the spout base is formed integrally with the cup portion.
9. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein drinking vessel is in the form of a mug and further comprises a handle attached to an outer portion of the wall.
10. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 8 wherein the drinking vessel is in the form of a glass and further comprises a stem extending from the wall proximate to the closed end of the cup portion.
11. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the spout base portion at least partially comprises a cover comprising an underside.
12. A drinking vessel as claimed in any one of the preceding claims wherein the spout base portion comprises at least a first spout base portion, which is attached to an internal portion of the wall of the cup portion, and wherein the spout base portion comprises a first spout base opening which is coincident with the second spout opening, and a second spout base opening remote from the first spout base opening; wherein a spout base channel provided between the spout base spout base first opening and the spout base second opening defines a further fluid pathway which communicates with the spout fluid pathway; and wherein the spout base channel provided between the first and second spout base openings defined a spout base fluid pathway which communicates with the spout fluid pathway.
13. A drinking vessel as claimed in claim 12 wherein distorted areas are provided in the cup portion, the distorted areas being distorted with respect to a remainder of the cup portion.
14. A drinking vessel as claimed in claim 12 or claim 13 wherein the spout base portion further comprises a second spout base portion comprising a cover comprising an underside.
15. A method of manufacturing a drinking vessel in accordance with any one of the preceding claims, wherein the method comprises injection moulding.
