Abstract

A packaging system (1) is disclosed for enveloping articles (10). The system (1) includes a controller (2), a split conveyor (3) for receiving and conveying an article (10) to be enveloped and measuring means (40, 41, 42) for detecting the width and height of the article (10). A pair of film sources (50a, 50b) is also provided, one of which feeds film above the article (10) and the other of which feeds film to the underside of the article (10) through the split in the conveyor (3). An end seamer (6) operates in the split of the conveyor (3) to seam opposed portions of film together to provide a closed end and a pair of side seamers (74) operate to seam opposed portions of film together on either side of the article (10) as it is conveyed along the conveyor (3), thereby to close the open sides of the wrapped film to envelop the article (10).
