DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED

EMBODIMENT

Referring to Figs. 2 to 4 and 5A, the adjustable door hinge "A" of the present invention comprises a base 20 fixed to a frame "a" and having a recess 21 defined in a side of a mediate portion thereof so as to form a first protrusion 22 and a second protrusion 220. Each of the first and second protrusions 22, 220 has a longitudinal hole 23 defined therethrough and communicates with the recess 21. The first and second protrusions 22, 220 each have a chamber 24 defined in a rear end thereof and the chamber 24 communicates with the longitudinal hole 23 corresponding thereto. Each of the first and second protrusions 22, 220 has a side hole 26 defined transversely therein and communicates with the chamber 24 corresponding thereto.

A door leaf 30 includes a leaf plate 33 which is fixed to a door "b" and a knuckle 31 which is engaged with the recess 21 of the base 20 and a passage 32 is defined longitudinally through the knuckle 31. The door leaf 30 is pivotably connected to the base 20 by a shaft 60 which extends through the longitudinal holes 23 in the first and second protrusions 22, 220 and the knuckle 31 which is located in the recess 21.

The shaft 60 includes an annular groove 62 defined in an outer periphery thereof. The longitudinal hole 23 of the first protrusion 22 includes a receiving port 25 defined in an inner periphery thereof and the shaft 60 includes an eccentric head 61 which is received in the receiving port 25.

By this way, the shaft 60 is not rotatable relative to the base 20. An adjusting piece 63 is threadedly inserted into the second protrusion 220 from an underside of the second protrusion 220 so as to be in contact with an end of the shaft 60. Two covers 27 are engaged with and seal the two longitudinal holes 23.

Two movable blocks 40 are movably received in the chambers 24 of the first and second protrusions 22, 220 respectively. Each movable block 40 has a threaded hole 41 defined transversely therethrough and a through hole 42 defined longitudinally therethrough. The shaft 60 extends through the two through holes 42. A threaded hole 311 is defined through a wall of the knuckle 31 and a positioning member 37 extends through the threaded hole 311 and is engaged with the annular groove 62 so that the shaft 60 is coimected to the knuckle 31.

Two adjusting bolts 50 respectively extend through the side holes 26 of the first and second protrusions 22, 220 and are threadedly engaged with the threaded holes 41 of the two movable blocks 40 by two respective threaded sections 51 of the adjusting bolts 50. Two washers 52 are located at one of two opposite sides of each of the first and second protrusions 22, 220 and are connected to an end of the adjusting bolt 50 so that the adjusting bolt 50 is rotatably positioned relative to the first/second protrusion 22/220. Four covers 53 are used to seal the side holes 26 and hide the adjusting bolts 50.

Two sets of spring 34 and end member 36 are respectively inserted into the passage 32 from two open ends of the knuckle 31 and the shaft 60 extends through the end members 36 and the springs 34. The passage 32 includes a positioning groove 312 defined in an inner periphery thereof and two bushes 35 are inserted in the passage 32. Each of the bushes 35 includes a boss 351 which is engaged with the positioning groove 312. The two end members 36 each have a cylindrical insertion 361 which is inserted into the bush 35 corresponding thereto. A longitudinal slot 352 is defined through each of the two bushes 35 and located beneath the boss 351. Each of the two end members 36 has a positioning projection 362 which is movably engaged with the longitudinal slot 352 of the bush 35 corresponding thereto so that the end members 36 are longitudinally movable in the two bushes 35.

The shaft 60 is hidden by the end members 36 to prevent the shaft 60 from being rusted. The two springs 34 each have a large end and a narrow end, the large end is engaged a shoulder portion in the passage 32 and the narrow end is inserted into the bush 35 and the end member 36.

By the springs 34 and the knuckle 31 can be moved in vertical direction relative to the base 20 without too much friction.

As shown in Figs. 5B and 5C, when the door "b" is to be adjusted relative to the frame "a", the users remove the covers 53 first and use a tool such as a wrench to engage an action recess 501 defined in an end of a head of the adjusting bolt 50 and rotate the adjusting bolt 50.

The movable blocks 40 are then moved in horizontal direction when rotating the adjusting bolts 50 because the threaded section 51 of the adjusting bolt 50 drives the movable block 40. The shaft 60 extending through the through hole 42 of the movable block 40 together with the door leaf 30 are moved in horizontal direction. A distance "h" in horizontal direction can be adjusted to adjust the door "b" relative to the frame "a".

Referring to Figs. 6A and 6B, when the door "b" is to be adjusted in vertical direction relative to the base 20, the cover 27 on the second protrusion 220 is removed, and the adjusting piece 63 is rotated to push the shaft 60. Because the shaft 60 is secured to the knuckle 31 by the positioning member 37, 50 that then movement of the shaft 60 moves the door leaf 30 in vertical direction so that the door "b" can be adjusted a distance "d" relative to the frame "a".

The door hinge "A" allows the user to easily adjust the door "b" relative to the frame "a" in vertical and horizontal directions. The movable blocks 40 are threadedly connected to the adjusting bolts 50 so that the movable blocks 40 can be moved steadily when rotating the adjusting bolts 50. The eccentric head 61 of the shaft 60 received in the receiving port 25 ensures that the shaft 60 can only shifted and does not rotate in the passages 32. The bosses 351 on the bushes 35 are engaged with the positioning grooves 312 of the knuckle 31 so that when the door leaf 30 is adjusted in vertical direction relative to the base 20, the bushes and the end members 36 are well positioned.

While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
