Abstract
A mobile phone user obtains information dependent on the location by calling a predetermined number. Using GPS or 3G technology, the location of the phone is pin pointed and this is used to determine the local information and the language for reply. The audio reply may indicate generally the proximity of e.g. museums, shops, restaurants as well as the location. The user may then select a destination and be provided with directions. Information on points of interest may also be given as the user follows the route.
Description
The Global Guide Patent Specification
The global guide is a service that will be provided by one of the major mobile networks to aid travellers to navigate and explore cities. In a similar vein to the headsets and earpieces available in all large museums, which give the visitor, all the relevant information they require via an audio commentary. The Global Guide would do this and much more, the user simply arrives at their destination calls the free or low cost GG number, which automatically, using developing GPS/GPRS/ G3 technology, pin points where in the world they are, where the mobile phone they are ringing from originates and uses this information to determine which language and what information they will want to hear. Once this has been established, the caller will be greeted by a simple, "hello and welcome to the GG, you are currently standing on Random High Street in Random City, within 100 yards there are 5 museums, 10 high street shops, 15 restaurants.." etc. They would then be prompted to specify what they would like to do - be directed to a specific museum, find the nearest McDonalds etc. Information would also be provided as you walk along the street, e.g. points of interest and historic relevance.
Revenue would be generated from every retailer and museum that appeared on the service. The huge advantage to using the GG is the cost and the fact that is can be accessed 24 hours a day anywhere in the world using just your mobile phone.

1. The distinctive technical features of the Global Guide are its ability to utilise existing G3/GPS/GPRS technology to pin point and supply relevant information 24 hours a day to the users mobile phone.
