Rollers, garden.-A lawn or like roller comprises a plurality of independently rotatable sections 16, 18 each supported at each side on selfadjusting antitriction bearings 6. As shown in Fig. 1 each roller section 16, 18 has a hub 13 with a cup-and-cone bearing at each end. The cones 2, 3 are slidable on an axle 1 of polygonat section, the cones, except those at the ends, being under the action of springs 8, 9 separated by a washer 11. The latter has a shield 12 protecting the springs from dirt that enters the space 21 between adjacent roller sections. The end cones abut the handle. 7 and the tension of the springs is adjusted by nuts 10. In a modification, springs such as 23, Fig. 3, are inclined between the end cones 2 and the handle 7. In another modification each roller section is divided and the two parts 33, 34, Fig. 3, have barrel parts 22, 25 the adjacent faces of which are separated by a ball thrust bearing. The balls 38 are spaced by a ring 37 having internal and external flanges 35, 36. The flange 35 and a. dished washer 15 exclude dirt from the bearing parts. The bearings at the end of the roller sections may be modified by arranging the cup members on the axle and the cone parts on the roller ends. The handle 7 may have a counterbalance weight 17, Fig. 1. The Provisional Specification describes a roller in which the axle may be cylindrical, the tension of the springs being sufficiently great to prevent rotation of the bearing races mounted thereon.
