Abstract
An insertion tab for a self adhesive retro-fit bookmark. Preferably the bookmark comprises an attachment end 1 with a self adhesive coating and an insertion tab 2. The attachment end 1 and insertion tab 2 may be separated by a notched or weakened area 3 allowing the insertion tab 2 to be broken off after the attachment end 1 has been inserted into the spine of the book and stuck down. The bookmark may also have a ribbon to mark selected pages.
Description
1 INSERTION TAB 2 For Self Adhesive Bookmark
4 DESCRIPTION
6 Bookmarks comprising of elongate flexible bands (eg 7 ribbon) have been in use for many years 9 A self-adhesive bookmark designed for retro-fit action o is detailed in patent application GB2348851. However, 1 the insertion of the bookmark into the spine of a book 2 is a fiddly and awkward task.
4 It is an object of the invention to provide an "insertion tab" for a self-adhesive retro-f it bookmark 6 that facilitates the insertion of the self-adhesive 7 bookmark into the spine of the book. Once fitted the 8 residue of the insertion tab (the handling end) is then 9 removed by way of a simple "pulling" action, leaving o the bookmark in place with no visible external residue.
2 A preferred embodiment of the insertion tab is shown 3 generally at Figure 1, comprising of:- (1) An "attachment end" whereby the self adhesive 6 bookmark (a) may be attached to the tab by way of, for 7 example, double sided adhesive tape.
9 (2) A "handling end" which is the means by which the o insertion tab/bookmark is held and manoeuvred while the 1 insertion tab/bookmark is being inserted into the spine 2 of the book.
4 (3) A notch, which provides a source of stress concentration to ensure that the insertion tab breaks 1 at the desired point in order to leave no visible 2 external residue when the "handling end" is removed by 3 way of a pulling action once the insertion tab/bookmark 4 has been fitted into the spine of a book.
6 Alternative embodiments of the insertion tab are shown, 7 by way of example, generally at Figure 2.
9 The insertion tab may be made of any suitably stiff yet o frangible material, for example light card or stiff 1 paper, that is amenable to being severed at the "notch" 2 by way of a pulling action.
