Abstract

A mobile coupon/ticket including a logo/picture and barcode provides a brand recognisable message embedded with a secure machine readable barcode that may include coupon ID or ticket booking reference.

Title of Invention
Creation of a mobile coupon/ticket to include a logo/picture, text and barcode.
Definitions Short messaging service (SMS): Technology that enables the sending of short text messages to/from and between mobile phones.
Enhanced messaging service (EMS): Enhancement to SMS that enables the addition of simple pictures, sounds and animations. Adopted by many major phone manufacturers Nokia picture message (NPM). Enhancement to SMS that enables the addition of simple pictures. Generally proprietary to Nokia(r1) Subscriber: user with a mobile phone subscribing to a service Mobile coupon and or ticket: Message sent to a mobile phone that includes a redeemable barcode.
Service Centre: central computer system receiving subscriptions and delivering content.
Service Centre Portal: interface to service centre that allows to definition of mobile coupons.
Servire/Cnntent: information and/or media that a user subscribes to.
Portal user: user of the Service Centre Portal.
Barcode: machine readable code including but not limited to public domain linear and 2 dimensional barcode formats.
Description
A portal user defines a mobile coupon with, but not limited to, a logo and or picture element and a barcode element. The logo element may be uploaded interactively or referenced from an existing media library.
When a subscriber registers (whether explicitly through a direct opt-in or implicitly by being in a database) for the mobile coupon the service centre creates a unique mobile coupon and or ticket encapsulating the media from the saved definition and a unique barcode.
The service centre then encodes the defined media into the mobile coupon following the
appropriate Nokia or EMS encoding specifications.
The service centre then generates a unique barcode and saves the generated code for later validation when the code is redeemed. The binary representation of the generated code is then rendered into the mobile coupon.
The text message associated with the coupon is then added to the encoding and the service centre transmits the code to the subscriber.

Claims (5)

  1. Claims 1. A mobile coupon and or ticket consisting of: a. a library
    reusable or specially selected logo/picture; b. a dynamically created barcode; c. human readable text.
  2. 2. The mobile coupon and or ticket according to claim 1 is created to the correct size and format.
  3. 3. The logo and or picture is retrieved.
  4. 4. A barcode is generated.
  5. 5. The barcode, logo and or picture and text are dynamically combined to form a single text message that; a. May a single text message or; b. A series of concatenated text messages that; c. Supports phones with NPM capability or; d. Supports phones with EMS capability.
