Abstract
Attachable face pads for clamps comprise a pad 1 with a magnet 2 set into the rear face of the pad, enabling the pad to be attached to the face of the clamp, protecting the work piece. A slot 7 assists in locating the pad on a bar type clamp fig 5. One face of the pad may be textured to improve the grip of the pad on the clamping surface. The pads may be shaped to match the clamp face and may be larger in area.

I
Attachable fac&pads foSaps Clamps generally used for work holding may have faces / heads made from hard, ferrous materials. When clamping pressure is applied to the work piece directly via the faces of the clamp, the work piece can be damaged due to the small surface area and sharp edges of the clamping faces. The invention proposes pads with larger surface area than the clamp faces that have a magnet inset into one face that allows the pads to be attached directly to the faces of the clamp via the magnet. This will provide protection for the work piece and assist the clamp user in holding and tightening the clamp without also having to simultaneously hold the pads in position.
Variations in the shape of the -will further assist to locate the pad in the desired position on the clamp and also keep it in position as clamping pressure is applied.
Examples of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 shows one variation of the invention with pad I and magnet 2 inset into one face of the. The pad is rectangular in shape and has a slot 7 to help locate the pad on a bar' type clamp; Fig. 2 shows one variation of the invention with pad I and magnet 2 inset into one face of the pad. The pad is square in shape.
Fig. 3 shows one variation of the invention with pad 1 and magnet 2 inset into one face of the pad. The pad is circular in shape.
Fig. 4 shows a 0' clamp 3 with circular pads 1 attached to clamp heads 4.
Fig. 5 shows a bar' type clamp with pads I attached to clamp beads 4. The pads are located on the bar via a slot 7 in the pad.
Fig. 6 shows a T bar' type clamp with pads 1 attached to clamp heads 4. The pads are located on the upper surface of the bar 6 by one flat edge.
Claims (4)
- Claims 1. A pad that can be attached to a clamping device via a magnet held within the pad that protects the work piece being clamped from damage by the clamping device.
- 2. A pad according to claim 1 that has an outline shape that may assist in positioning the pad correctly on the clamping device.
- 3. A pad according to claim 1 that may be shaped in a manner to prevent displacement of the pad on the clamping device during the process of clamping pressure being applied to the work piece via the clamping device.
- 4. A pad according to the prior claims that may have a textured surface on the face that contacts the face of the clamping device to improve grip.
