Abstract

A multi compartmental recycling bin allows waste to be separated by type. It includes two drawers and two upper compartments 1.4 covered by a double sided push lid 1.1. The drawers may include handles 1.5 and identity tag slots 1.6. There are mounting grooves, ideally located on the sides 1.3 of the lid, so that it can be easily lifted. There is a separating spine, preferably at the centre of the lid on the inside to separate the upper compartments which are accessed by the lid. The bin is made of multiple segments including upper parts 1.4 and base unit 1.7 which may attach via snapfit connections in a twisting motion. The lids rim can seal the main bin unit. The upper compartments are ideally cyclindrical.

Background of the Invention

[2) The present invention relates to a composite recycling waste bin and is particularly designed to be a freestanding modular unit allowing for the storage of several different types of household waste and items for recycling.

[3] Composite recycling bins which compartmentalise different types of waste with the use of separation members such as boxed containers for the purposes of recycling are known in the art. Composite recycling bins containing removable compartments for ease of use and practicality are also known in the art. Waste bin devices for separate refuse materials which can be distinguished by identifiable markings such as labels stating their contents are also known in the art.

[4] For example, DE3435666 to Leo discloses a device for pre sorting refuse into categories of conpostable. refuse, reusable refuse elements or contaminated refuse using individual drawers which are assigned to the types of refuse which are being separated from one another and can all be accommodated in a frame which is designed as a base unit or as an arrangement, the external spatial dimensions of which approximately correspond to a base unit of standard size which can for example be integrated into a fitted kitchen system.

[5) Furthermore tJS5662235 to Nieto discloses a receptacle for recycling materials which is comprised of an outer housing having a removable cover with a plurality of openings therein and a separate pivotal lid closing each opening. Each opening and associated lid is in alignment with a respective container held in the housing, so that material can be placed through the openings in the cover and into the respective containers without the need for removing the cover from the housing. When one or more containers are full, the cover can be removed and the container or containers lifted out by a handle attached to the container. Provision on the housing cover of a lid for each container simplifies emptying of the individual containers when they are removed from the housing.

[6] Furthermore, CN2O1367224 to Zhenhuan discloses a domestic resource recycling bin which comprises at least two corrugated structures which stretch and retract up and down. Sorting signs are arranged on the side wall of the bin body and a lifting handle is connected at the upper end of the bin body. The bin body is provided with a bin cover, at the centre of which a carrying handle is arranged which can be wedged with an L-shaped clamping slot at the upper edge of the bin body are arranged at the edge of the bin cover; a leak hole is arranged at the lower head face of the bin body and a leak receiver plate sleeved on the bin body is arranged below the leak hole.

[7] Furthermore, GBO619O37 to Robert discloses an eco -wheelie bin comprises a receptacle to allow the separation of recyclable household waste which has four compartments and may fit into an existing wheelie bin. Each compartment may be formed by a removable container having a pivotal handle for lifting. The receptacle may be divided in two by a partition which runs between two of the containers on each side.

[8] Furthermore, GB0710418 to Fairfield discloses a multi drawer colour coded recycling wheelie bin. The wheelie bin contains 5 drawers to assist in the separation and collection of household waste. The drawers are colour coded and have written descriptions to identify the waste to be collected. Preferably the drawers are incorporated into the main body of a wheelie bin, and preferably sit on shelves in the main body of the bin, allowing the drawers to be removed for emptying. The bin maybe made from recycled, new or a combination of plastic and or aluminium.

Brief Summary and Advantages of the Invention

[9] The preceding demonstrates an evident need for a waste disposal device which has the practical functionality of being able to store and separate various household and recyclable waste within compartments forming parts of a main bin body.

[10] It would be preferable for the composite recycle bin to be able to store several different types of waste for the purposes of recycling and household refuse.

[11] It would be preferable for the composite recycle bin to be a freestanding unit comprising of a main body with up to five separate internal compartments.

[12] It would be advantageous for the composite recycle bin to have a lid placed at the top of the main body of the container which is operated by a simple swing mechanism for ease of use.

[13] It would be preferable for the composite recycle bin to have its compartments identified using tabs which can specify what is internally contained within each separate waste receptacle.

[14] It would be preferable for the composite recycle bin to have its drawer units customizable to user preference by being able to adjust the number of compartments that are contained within the main body of the bin by adding or detaching the recycling units.

[15] It would be preferable for the composite recycle bin to be able to store everyday non recyclable waste additionally which can be held within the main unit of the bin using a disposable waste liner.

Detailed Description of the Invention

[22] The composite recycle bin comprising, the double sided push lid, mounted side grooves, the lid rim, the separating spine, plastic divider compartments, the main waste storage unit, one, two or three storage drawers, snap fit connections, drawer slots identity tag slots, drawer handles and a base unit.

[23] The double sided semi circular lid is mounted at the top of the main unit of the composite recycle bin (figure 3, 1.1) allowing access to the upper compartments of the recycle bin. The lid is opened using a push mechanism whereby the lid swings vertically open when pressure is exerted once upon the circular indent placed towards the lower centre of the lid (figure 3) [24] The lid section also comprises of mounted side groves placed externally on the left and right sides of the exterior of the lid.

The side grooves consist of parallel raised edges that allow for the lid to be easily removed and the bin frame to be conveniently lifted.

[25] The double sided lid member is separated using a spine that is located vertically internally within the centre of the lid device, acting as a divider for the top bin compartments when placed between the main two storage units.

[26] The lid members are encircled by a lid rim which acts as a seal for the top of the main unit of the recycle bin and placed over the two internal compartments.

1271 The main recycle bin unit embodies a cylinder shape and comprises of two semi circular compartments (figure 4, 1.4). One waste unit would preferably be for the containment of everyday non recyclable household waste which would be held by a bin liner inserted within the given unit. The bin unit would be secured in place by a plastic divider encasing both units, acting as a lip to hold the bin liner in place when it is placed over the unit. The liner would be further secured by the said lid rim (1.3) sealing the top of the unit.

[28] An adjacent semi circular shaped compartment within the main unit would be preferably for the use of larger items of recyclable material that could be disposed through the opening of the second lid (figure 3, 1.1).

[29] The larger main unit is attached to draw slot units (figure 4, 1.7) underneath with the use of a snap fit connection comprising of two interlocking 1-shaped members allowing for the drawer units to slot into place with the main unit when slightly twisted.

[30] The composite recycle bin has the capability to store two drawer units connecting underneath the main body of the waste device (1.5) and a further base unit (1.7) providing space internally to store other categorised recycling waste such as glass or paper for example. The drawers are located within the slots using the snap fit connections and are easily detached for customisation.

[31] The drawers are located by a handle (1.5) located on the exterior of the waste compartment which is pulled outwards for access. Each drawer contains an identification tab slot (Figure 5, 1.6) for the purposes of organising the waste according to its content.
