Abstract

A cleaner head or nozzle unit for a vacuum cleaning appliance comprises a main body (12, fig 1), a front agitator 60 and a rear agitator 62, each agitator 60, 62 being rotatable relative to the main body (12, fig 1), and a means for rotating the front agitator 60 and the rear agitator 62. The main body (12, fig 1) includes a front edge 24 located above the rotational axis A of the front agitator 60, and the front agitator 60 comprises a pile which extends forwardly beyond the front edge 24 of the main body (12, fig 1). The front edge 24 is preferably parallel to the rotational axis A of the front agitator 60 and it may extend the entire width of the cleaner head. The pile of the agitators 60,62 may have a surface resistivity of between 1 x 10-5and 1x1012&OHgr;/sq. The front and rear agitators 60, 62 are preferably dissimilar and the rear agitator 62 may rotate faster than the front agitator 60.
