Abstract
The mechanical extract ventilation unit comprises a plurality of inlet ports 34a-d, an exhaust port 42, a fan for moving air from the inlets to the exhaust, and at least one redirector 40 for redirecting air from at least one of the inlets towards the fan. A redirector may be provided for each inlet, each redirector comprising a circular scoop. Caps 32 may be used to cover inlets that are not required. The fan may be a centrifugal fan and the inlets may be arranged around a central cavity of the unit, wherein at least one of the inlets and redirectors are directed off centre of the centrifugal fan's intake. A recess may be provided directly behind, and having a diameter greater than or equal to, the fan intake to allow a vortex to form in use. The arrangement of the redirectors reduces air turbulence in the central cavity, making the unit quieter and more efficient in use.
