Description

A COVER FOR PROTECTING A
TOBACCO PRODUCT FROM RAIN DURING
OUTDOOR SMOKING OF THE TOBACCO PRODUCT
This invention relates to a cover for protecting a tobacco product from rain and, more especially, this invention relates to a cover for protecting a tobacco product from rain during outdoor smoking of the tobacco product.
The tobacco product may be a cigarette, a cigar, or smoker's tobacco in a pipe.
The smoking of tobacco products outdoors rather than indoors is increasing substantially. This is mainly due to legislation banning the indoor smoking of the tobacco products in public areas such for example as offices, restaurants, and public houses. People wishing to smoke outdoors often face inclement weather conditions, and rain may soak the tobacco product and prevent it from being lit up to start with, or prevent it from being fully smoked.
It is an aim of the present invention to reduce the above mentioned problem.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a cover for protecting a tobacco product from rain during outdoor smoking of the tobacco product, which cover comprises a cover portion for the tobacco product, and a mounting portion for mounting the cover portion above the tobacco product and at a sufficient distance from the tobacco product that heat from the tobacco product during the smoking does not adversely affect the cover portion.
As indicated above, the tobacco product may be a cigarette, a cigar, or smoker's tobacco in a pipe. The cigarette may be a filter cigarette or a non-filter cigarette. The cigar may be any sized cigar including small cigars known as cigarillos. In addition to protecting the tobacco product from rain, the cover may also protect the tobacco product from other inclement weather conditions such for example as wind. The spacing of the cover portion from the tobacco product may be such that, during smoking, the cover does not become damaged and does not over heat.
In a first embodiment of the invention, the cover is for use with a tobacco product in the form of a cigarette or a cigar, the cover portion is an elongate concave member of a length for covering the cigarette or cigar, and the mounting portion is a tube for receiving and holding the end of the cigarette or cigar through which smoking takes place.
The elongate member may connect to the tube by a neck portion which provides the required distance of the elongate concave member above the cigarette or cigar.
In a second embodiment of the invention, the cover is for use with a tobacco product in the form of smoker's tobacco in a pipe, the cover portion is a formation for extending over a bowl of the pipe, and the mounting portion secures to the pipe.
The mounting portion preferably secures to the stem of the pipe, but it may secure to other parts of the pipe if desired.
The cover may be made of any suitable and appropriate materials.
Thus, for example, the cover may be made of a plastics material or a metal.
Where the cover is made of a plastics material, then it may be a moulded cover. The cover may be produced to be re-usable for two or more uses.
Alternatively, the cover may be manufactured to be disposable after one use.
If the cover is to be disposable after one use, then the cover may be made of a stiff paper or cardboard material, for example appropriately coated with a water resisting material such for example as a silicon coating. The stiff paper or cardboard material may also be treated with a fire-resistant material so that the paper or cardboard would not catch fire during the smoking of the tobacco product. The production of the cover in paper or cardboard material may lend itself easily to the cover being printed with appropriate advertising material.
Depending upon the intended use, the cover can be made as a bespoke smoker's item, or alternatively as a simple and inexpensive throw away item.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a cover of the present invention; Figure 2 is an end view of the cover as shown in Figure 1; and Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of the cover as shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a cover 2 for protecting a tobacco product 4 from rain during smoking of the tobacco product 4. The cover 2 comprises a cover portion 6 for the tobacco product 4, and a mounting portion 8 for mounting the cover portion 6 above the tobacco product 4 and at a sufficient distance from the tobacco product 4 that heat from the tobacco product 4 during the smoking does not adversely affect the cover portion 6.
The tobacco product 4 is a cigarette. The cover portion 6 is an elongate concave member of a length for covering the cigarette. The mounting portion 8 is a tube for receiving and holding the end 10 of the cigarette through which smoking takes place. The cover portion 6 connects to the mounting portion 8 by a neck portion 12 which provides the required distance of the cover portion 6 above the tobacco product 4.
As can best be appreciated from Figure 1, the tobacco product 4 in the form of the cigarette is held in place in the cover 2. During smoking, the tobacco product 4 is protected by the cover portion 6. The mounting portion 8 enables the tobacco product 4 in the form of the cigarette to be held in position. The end 10 the cigarette is able to protrude sufficiently far from an end 14 of the mounting portion 8 that it can be gripped between a person's lips for normal smoking. Alternatively, the mounting portion 8 may be gripped between the person's lips.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiment of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings has been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, the tobacco product 4 is shown as a cigarette in which the end 10 is a filter end. The cigarette could alternatively be one without a filter. The tobacco product 4 could alternatively be a cigar. The cover 2 can be of a wide variety of designs, as can the cover portion 6 and the mounting portion 8. If the cover is intended for use with a tobacco product in the form of smoker's tobacco in a pipe, then the cover portion may be a formation extending over a bowl of the pipe, and the support portion may secure to the pipe, for example to a stem of the pipe. The formation extending over the bowl of the pipe may be concave, for example of an umbrella shape or any other suitable and desired shape. The cover can be provided with printed material if desired, so that, for example, the cover may be provided with advertising details of the manufacturer of the smoking product. * 6
