Walls.-In a steamboiler furnace of the kind in which the combustion chamber is enclosed on all sides by water tubes surrounded by brickwork, the tubes are arranged at a slight inclination to the horizontal and connected at their ends to vertical headers arranged externally of the furnace and forming part of the water-circulation system of the boiler. As shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. the tubes A are enclosed in brickwork B and those in the front and rear walls are divided into two lengths connected at their ends to vertical headers 2, 4 and 3, 5, while those in the side walls are connected to headers 1, 6. The inlet headers 1, 2 and 3 are connected by pipes 1<a>, 3<a> with the steam and water drum C while the outlet headers 4, 5, 6 are connected to the drum C by pipes 4<a>, 6<a>. In a modification, the tubes are arranged in recesses formed in the brickwork so that they are exposed to the heat of the furnace.
