Abstract
A babys cot, has four sides, each railed, one of which can be detached so that it can be used for the dual purpose of being a bed rail with another bed. To be used as a bed rail the detachable side 4 is attached to two securing beams 5, 6. Once the securing beams are attached they can be placed between a bed base and mattress allowing the detachable side rail to act as a bed rail. The detachable side 4 together with the beams 5, 6 are easily transportable thus overcoming the need to transport the whole cot and can be used, on its own, for an older baby.
Description
2338180 1 Flexible Babys Cot This invention relates to a flexible babys
cot.
Babys cots are well known and typical designs comprise of three static sides and one further side having the ability of being able to be moved up and down allowing freer access or otherwise.
A typical babys cot is relatively basic, but are however expensive in relation to what is actually purchased. Conventional cots lack flexibility and are thus consequently limited in how they are used. For example, when a situation arises whereby a baby is required to sleep at another location conventional cots are not easily transported. Travel cots have been used to solve this problem but still have the tendency to remain rather cumbersome. Additionally, as a baby gets older it will require the extra safety and security in its first bed that a cot can provide. A method used to solve this problem has been the use of bed rails.
According to the present invention there is provided a flexible babys cot comprising of four railed sides three of which are static, one of which can be manoeurved up and down. One railed side comprises of a means of detachment, plus a means of allowing for easy transportation and of attaching the detachable side rail to two securing beams.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- n z:Figure 1 shows in perspective the flexible cot with the detachable side rail attached.
Figure 2 shows the separation of detachable side rail from the flexible cot.
Figure 33 shows the detachable side rail and securing beams in transportation position.
Figure 4 shows how the detachable side rail is attached to the securing beams.
Referring to the figures 1-4 the flexible babys cot comprises of three static side rails 1, 2 and c' a detachable side rail 4. The cot also comprises of two securing beams 5 and 6.
In order to remove the detachable side rail 4 from the three static rails 1,2 and 3 the four attaching bolts are removed as illustrated as in figure 2.
2 To allow for easy transportation the detachable side rail 4 is secured to the securing beams by way of securing clips 7(a). This is illustrated in figure 3.
The detachable side rail 4 is attached to securing beams 5 and 6 by the securing bolts 7(b). The securing beams lie between the bed base and the mattress, thus enabling the detachable side rail 4 to act as a bed rail. In each le- of the detachable side rail 4 there is a slot which is an 0 allowance for beds of differing heights. This is illustrated in figure 4.
A further embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 5 shows in perspective the flexible cot with detachable side rail attached.
Figure 6 shows the separation of detachable side rail from the flexible cot.
g Figure 7 shows the detachable side rail and securing beams in transportation position.
Figure 8 shows the detachable side rail attached to the securing beams.
Referring to figures 5-8 the flexible babys cot comprises three static side rails 8, 9 and 10, a 0 detachable side rail 11. The cot also comprises of two securing beams 12 and 13.
In order to remove the detachable side rail 11 from the three static side rails 8,9, and 10 the four attachin. bolts 16 are removed as is illustrated in figure 6.
0 To allow for easy transportation the detachable side rail 11 is secured to securing beams 12 and 13 by way securing bolts 14. This is illustrated in figure 7.
The detachable side rail 11 is attached to the securing beams 12 and 13. The securing beams 12 and 13 lie between the bed base and matress, thus enabling the detachable side rail 11 to act as a bed rail. This achieved by two securing bolts 15. This is illustrated in figure 8.

Claims (4)
1. A flexible babys cot comprising of four railed sides, three of which are static, one of which can be manoeuvred up and down. One railed side comprises a means of detachment, plus a means of allowing for easy transportation and of attaching the detachable side rail to two securing beams.
2. A flexible babys cot is claimed in 1 wherein a means is provided for attaching the detachable side rail to two securing beams to allow for easy transportation.
3. A flexible babys cot is claimed in 1 or 2 wherein a slot is provided in each leg of the detachable rail to provide for a means of attaching securing beams. This is given by reference to figure 4.
4. A flexible babys cot is claimed substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-8 of the accompanying drawings.
