Abstract

233,107. Curtis, B. E., and Campbell, E. C. M. March 31, 1924. Hair-curling appliances. -A hair-waving appliance, consists of a cap comprising a head band formed to pass from the forehead to the back of the head, with strips of material passing over the head and fastened to the band in such a manner that the points of attachment of the strips to the band cannot be altered by the removal of the cap. The strips may be fixed at each end to the band and may be adjustable in length between the points of attachment to the band, or one or both ends may be detachably secured to the band in such a manner that the strips may be replaced in the same position as before removal. The band and strips may be of limp material, such as tape, or of semi-rigid material, such as celluloid. The head-band 1, Fig. 1, of tape or similar material, is adjusted to the head by a buckle 2. Tapes 3 - - 6 pass from the front to the back of the band over the head, the tapes being adjustable by buckles 8. Tapes 10 - - 12 secured to the band at each side thereof pass around the back of the head and are adjustable by buckles. Pressbuttons may be provided to connect the tape 10 to the tapes 3 - - 6, and a series of such pressbuttons may be used to permit, relative adjustment. The band 1 may be provided with a series - of eyes at each side and the tapes 10 - - 12 provided with hooks so that they may be fixed in various positions. A similar appliance made of celluloid, aluminium, or other rigid flexible material comprises a head-band 15, which may be secured by means such as a strap 16 and pressbutton 17, 18, and strips 21 - - 23 engaging in sockets formed by a plate 24 at the front of the band 15, together with half-hoops 26 - - 29 attached to the band 15 by means such as pivot pins 30 engaging with buttons 31 on the hoops. Press-buttons 25 on the front strips 21 - - 23 may engage sockets 19 on the hoop 26. The strips 21 - - 23 may be permanently riveted to the band 15, and permanent fixings may also be used to connect the rear hoops 26 - - 29 to the band. Alternatively, securing bolts with wing nuts may pass through slots in the band and hoops. Figs. 10 and 11 show forms in which the appliance is made in one piece. The head-band 15 is tightened on the head by a spring 45 connecting the rear ends of the band. As shown in broken lines in Fig. 8, an auxiliary frame 52 may be attached by means of pins or studs for waving long hair, the latter being turned back over the hoops 26 - - 29 and drawn up and waved between the bars of the frame 52.
