Abstract
A stand for a planting container which will not stand up unaided or risks falling over on an uneven surface, comprises two frame members 2, 3. One or both of the frame members has a slot which allows them to be interconnected in an X-shaped configuration. The frame members have support legs 4,5,6,7 which can be secured, eg by bolts or screws, to a surface on which the stand is to be placed. The frame members also have jaws 9,10 adjacent their ends with teeth which bite on the pot to secure it to the stand. This stand is particularly suitable for a hanging plant or flower pot having a flat or a convex base.
Description
Stand for Planting Container
The present invention relates to a stand for a planting container such as a flower pot or the like.
Typically hanging pots for flowers or plants are intended to be suspended from a wall-mounted bracket or hook or the like. Because such pots typically have either a convexshaped or flat base, it can be difficult to place them on, for example, uneven surfaces where they might fall over, with possible damage to their contents.
Thus it is an object of the present invention to alleviate such difficulties and to provide a means for displaying planting containers, of the type normally used for hanging, in a range of locations where such display has previously been difficult.
Therefore, there is provided by the present invention a stand for a planting container, said stand comprising a framework of connected frame members, each said frame member having a plurality of support legs extending therefrom, wherein said stand is complementarily shaped and dimensioned so as to be capable of receiving the planting container. Thus, advantageously the planting container can be placed on the frame, the support legs allowing the planting container to be stabilised on any flat or uneven surface.
Preferably the planting container comprises a plant or flower pot having a convex-shaped base. Such a planting container may be of any suitable material, such as pottery, plastics, wood, wire, basketwork or the like.
The frame members preferably each have jaws adjacent their ends, the jaws being arranged to grip the pot more securely on the stand.
Preferably, securing means such as bolts or screw fixings or the like, are provided on the support legs to enable the stand to be secured to a surface on which the stand is to be placed.
The stand is typically collapsible, thus allowing for ease of storage and dismantling when not in use.
The stand preferably comprises two frame members, at least one of which includes a slot or groove allowing the other frame member to be inserted therein. Preferably, the stand in its non-collapsed (assembled) position, is substantially 'X'- shaped. The frame members can be constructed of any suitably rigid material, such as plastics or metal.
The invention may be more clearly understood from the following description of an embodiment thereof, given by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pot stand according to the invention;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the stand of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a side view of the individual frame members of the stand shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Referring to the drawings, there is illustrated a collapsible pot stand generally indicated by the reference numeral 1. The stand comprises two interconnecting frames 2 and 3 having support legs 4, 5 and 6, 7 respectively at each of their ends. In its non-collapsed configuration the stand is shaped to support a convex base of a flower pot or the like (not shown) in a stable orientation. Jaws 9 and 10 are provided on each of the frames 2 and 3. Each of jaws 9 has a pair of teeth 13,14 towards the end thereof; each of jaws 10 has a pair of teeth 15,16 towards the end thereof. Teeth 13,14,15,16 serve to bite on the pot and thereby secure it to the stand 1. A slot 11 is provided on one or both of the frame members 2 and 3 to allow the frame members to be interconnected in an 'X'-shaped configuration.
Bores 12 can be provided on each of the support legs of the frame members 2 and 3 to receive a screw fixing or the like (not shown) therein.
Claims (4)
1. A stand for a container for plants, said stand comprising
a framework of connected frame members, each said frame
member having a plurality of support legs extending
therefrom, wherein said stand is complementarily shaped and
dimensioned so as to be capable of receiving said
container.
2. A stand according to claim 1, wherein each of said frame
members has jaws adjacent to the respective ends, said jaws
being arranged to grip said container securely on said
stand.
3. A stand according to claim 1 or 2, which includes securing
means provided on said support legs to enable the stand to
be secured to a surface on which the stand is to be placed.
4. A stand according to any of claims 1 to 3, which is
collapsible.
4. A stand according to any of claims 1 to 3, which comprises
two said frame members.
5. A stand according to claim 4, wherein at least one of said
frame members includes a slot or groove for receiving the
other frame member.
6. A stand according to any of claims 1 to 5, which is
substantially 'X' shaped when in its assembled position.
7. A stand according to any of claims 1 to 6, which is
collapsible.
8. In combination, a stand according to any of claims 1 to 7,
and a container for plants supported on said stand.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A stand for a plant pot, said stand comprising a
framework of cruciform configuration of two connected
frame members, each of the two frame members having a
plurality of support legs extending therefrom, said
support legs providing means to secure the stand to a
surface on which the stand is to be placed, one of
said frame members having a slot, and the other of
said frame members having a groove for complementary
engagement with said slot whereby said frame members
can be interconnected to form said framework of
cruciform configuration, each of said frame members
having a concave upper surface such that the stand can
receive a convex-shaped base of said pot.
2. A stand according to claim 1, wherein each of the
frame members has jaws adjacent to the respective
ends, the said jaws being arranged to grip said pot on
said stand.
3. A stand according to claim 1 and a pot for plants supported
on said stand.
