Abstract

A high visibility elastic rope has a sucker at each end of the rope. One sucker is attached to the rear windscreen of a towing vehicle and the other is attached to the front windscreen of a vehicle being towed, a tow rope connects the two vehicle. The high visibility rope acts as barrier to warn/prevent people from walking between the two cars and potentially tripping over the tow rope. Two high visibility ropes may be provided to form a barrier on both sides of the cars. The rope may incorporate LED marker lights.

Description

TOWING ANTI-TRIP SYSTEM Need
I found the need for this invention while running a garage business and understanding the need to minimise the risk of accidents and potential costs which in turn would affect my insurance renewal costs.
Reason for invention When towing a car or light commercial vehicle in a built up area and you stop at a junction, things could go very wrong. The towing vehicle driver is focusing on joining traffic unable to see pedestrians/cyclists/wheelchair users anxious to cross the road.
The pedestrian in haste makes to run between the vehicles totally unaware of the rope or bar connecting the vehicles, this is made worse if a high herb exists or in poor visibility. The driver being towed is virtually helpless to avoid potentially serious accident and resulting claim if pedestrian trips onto passing vehicles in adjoining lane or by towed vehicle if towing vehicle moves off unaware of problem.
I see the need for my invention where a high visible barrier cord with suckers to attach to a suitable position on the rear of the towing vehicle and front of the vehicle being towed in three options.
Option 1 1 x.Low cost single high visibility day glow elastic rope as an added safety feature possibly included when purchasing tow ropes. Fitted to vehicle directly above the rope It could also be set to be taught when rope is taught and slacken slightly when the car being towed gets to close i.e. downhill and braking helping inexperienced drivers keep rope taught during towing thus avoiding tow rope breaking in addition to providing a visible anti-trip barrier to pedestrians.
Option 2 2 x High visibility day glow elastic ropes with suckers fitted as per attached drawing to provide high visible barrier on both sides giving a very high level of protection to pedestrians and other road users Oution 3 Either of the above with LED marker lights It is my opinion this should be made compulsory by insurance/health and safety/police
