Abstract

A drill stand for supporting a drill 24 in position with respect to a work surface 27 and for advancing the drill to perform a drilling operation. The stand comprises two parallel columns 1, 2 attached by a collar 9 for supporting the drill. At the bottom of each column is a spring 16 and two leg braces 21 and 22 which are placed on the work surface. When downward pressure is applied to the drill the springs compress and the leg braces move towards one another thus asserting a gripping action on the work surface.

Description

GENERAL CONSIDERATION
Introduction
This Information Summary relates to a product improvement called "All Edits".
My name is Mr. Naseem Ahrnad Hassan-Ally. I live in Croydon, Surrey, United Kingdom.
The result is a reference tool, which can be used to submit "All Bits" to the industry in a logical format, which stresses its positive and most appealing features.
Description: Product Concept Review
In this information summary I shall review the distinctive features of product improvement and the need it may fulfil.
The concept of "AII Bits" is an improved drill guide, which would include an adjustable clamping system on the bottom. finis clamping system would, of course, be very helpful when an individual is trying to drill an opening in material stock with a round cross-section or angles any shape of material, such as a section of piping etc. In addition, it would save wear and tear on drill bits. Even someone without any experience of drilling can use it, as it is very easy to operate.
Each guide would be comprised of seven main components: Two column assemblies (to support the drill) À A special adjustable collar (positioned between the columns and used to actually clamp the drill) Two push out springs (with one spring located at the bottom of each column assembly) À Two small clamp assemblies (which would serve as both "feet" for the columns and clamp to hold the material stock in place.
Each column assembly would consist of a steel or aluminium rod, in a vertical orientation and a section of tubing, which could slide up or down on the rod. The two springs previously mentioned, would have an inside diameter just slightly larger than the outside diameter of the metal rods, while at the same time supporting the bottom edges of the two section of steel or aluminium tubing.
In order to hold a drill in place, the collar would include a set of four bolts, actually thumbscrews, which would firmly grip the body of the drill. If desired small rubber pads could be affixed to the ends of the bolts, so as not to scratch the drill body. Along with this, both ends of the collar would have another thumbscrew to lock the collar onto the tubing at the desired height. Finally, two bolt assemblies would be provided near the ends of the collar to adjust the size of the collar (the opening for the drill body).
Each clamp assembly would consist of two small metal plates/legs, which would be parallel at degrees and when the drill is pushed downwards, the legs will close with the help of the two leg braces, both sides of the legs up to 90 degrees. It would look like from a parallel to amore or less inverted "V" shaped configuration, after assembly, with the upper end of each leg (plate) hinged to the bottom of one of the columns. A rubber pad affixed to the underside of each plate would prevent damage to the surface of a piece of material stock while also thinly gripping the stock in place. Each plate would also include a small slot in which a leg brace could slide. Since the upper end of each leg brace would be hinged to one of the tubing sections (columns), the angle of the plates with respect to the horizontal could be varied so as to clamp the material stock in place.
A set of graduation on one tube (of the column assemblies) would complete the guide, with the drill secured to the collar and the collar locked to the columns at the desired height, as indicated by the graduations. The amount of the downward travel of the drill bit would be limited by compression of the springs. Overall, the improved guide would measure approximately six inches in width and twelve inches in height.
Function and Appealing Features I believe "All Bits" would fulfil the need for a much easier method for clamping/drilling an opening, in a section of material stock where there is an angle or stock with a round cross-section etc. The appealing features of "All Bits" would be the convenience, ease of use, lightweight, relatively small size and compactness of the product - r itself. The time saved in using this product to the conventional way of drilling and the reasonable price of the creation would appeal to those with a professional hand and those who are not so familiar with such DIY. Both contractor and DIY persons would find this improved guide very helpful.
Historical Development I identified a need and a problem to be solved that prompted me into the invention process of such a product. I then conceived "All Bits" with subsequent sketchesldrawings and a written description of my ideas.
Production "All Bits" would represent a modification of an existing product, it The main parts of the column assemblies along with the legs (for the clamp assemblies) and the collar could be fabricated/machined from standard structural steel or aluminium shapes. The rubber pads, which could be trimmed to the proper size; along with the hinges, thumbscrews and bolts could be considered "off the shelf'' type items, which an interested manufacturer could probably purchase in quantity at a substantial discount and the costing estimates of approximately ú20.00.
Drawines of the Product From Fig. 1 to Fig. 5, each drawing represents a part of the "All Bits" stand.
À Fig. 1 shows the whole assembly including the drill and the material stock Fig. 2 displays the "All Bits" stand on its own, without a drill.
À Fig. 3 illustrates only one side of the stand and how it would look when not in use.
À Fig. 4 demonstrates only one side of the stand same as Fig. 3 but this time when it is in use.
