Abstract

A watertight vehicle cover 1 offers protection from rising flood water. The cover may be sealed using nylon rings 4 and a drawstring 6, and may have an attached flap 5 to prevent rain ingress.

Description

WATERTIGHT CAR/VEHICLE COVER
This invention refers to a watertight, sealed car cover.
Car covers have been used to provide dust and rain protection for vehicles when not in use. These types of covers are not watertight and usually attach by hooks to the upper edges of the wheel arches of the vehicle, or else by means of an elasticated hem. These covers offer some protection from water and dust from above but because of the absence of any protection from ground level they offer no protection from rising water levels, such as in cases of flooding.
According to the present invention there is provided a fully watertight enclosure in the form of a bag that is opened and sealed by means of a drawstring running through nylon rings around the top open perimeter of the cover. This means therefore that in case of flooding the enclosed vehicle is fully protected from rising water from ground level up to just below the height of the roof of the vehicle. An attached piece of the same waterproof material forms a rain cover that flaps over the gathered neck of the cover to stop rain ingress. This is also secured by means of a drawstring running through nylon rings along the edge of the rain flap.
The watertight cover would be made from a rip-stop, waterproof material.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1, sheet I shows the cover (1) in perspective in the open and lowered position, with the securing cover rings (2) and drawstrings (3). Also the rain flap (5) and its securing cover rings (4) and drawstring (6).
Figure 2, sheet I shows the cover (1) in a similar perspective in the raised and open position. Figure 3, sheet 1 shows the cover (1) in a sealed position with the rain flap (5) open.
Figure 4, sheet 1 shows the cover (1) in a sealed position with the rain flap (5) closed.
Referring to the drawings the cover comprises a waterproof cover (1) that is spread open on the ground to allow driven or pushed entry and exit.
At ground level where there is contact with tyres and ground suitably resilient material is used to prevent damage.

Claims (4)

1 A sealed, watertight vehicle cover that protects the vehicle from rising water in cases of flooding.
2 A cover as claimed in Claim 1 where a system of nylon rings and running
drawstrings secure the cover.
3 A cover as claimed in Claim 1 where the convergence point of the sides of the top perimeter of the cover covered by an attached flap sealed with a running drawstring that prevents rain ingress.
4 A cover as claimed in Claim I where the cover is spread out on the ground to allow driven entry and exit.
