Abstract
A safety system for a gas cooker having a heat sensor 3 near the gas head, a tap sensor 2 at the gas supply tap, an actuator 1 located at the main gas supply pipe, an alarm means 5 and a reset switch 6. Opening of the gas supply tap is detected by tap sensor 2 whilst heat sensor 3 detects whether the gas is ignited. If no heat is sensed the system shuts off the main gas supply via actuator 1 and provides a warning via alarm means 5. The system may be reset by switch 6 and if the gas is not lit the main gas supply is shut off again.
Description

Gas Cooker safety system The invention relates to a gas safety system that would use some mechanical and electronic components that would be installed in the gas or outside the gas cooker to increase it's safety.
Gas cookers are dangerous devices if one of the gas taps was left open without lighting up the gas then this might cause suffocation for the residents or it might explode the house if a spark was produced, my invention solves this problem.
My invention will test the gas taps if they were opened and there is no heat produced in the gas head then the system will shut off the main gas supply pipe and give out a light or a buzzer to alarm the user then the user may reset the system by a switch after solving the problem.
The system would have a heat sensor in the oven, grill, and each gas head. It would have a switch in each tap. The data from the sensors would be inputted to a Microcontroller system or a simple logic circuit. This circuit will identify the action according to the input and the programme in the case of a Microcontroller. The output would go to an actuator in the main gas supply pipe and a light or a buzzer. A reset switch can be used by the user to reset the system.
Any heat sensor, tap sensor, and actuator can be used as long as they satisfy other safety requirements such as leakage. The prograTnme in the Microcontroller or the circuit in the logic circuit would be a simple one, but the idea of everything working together as a safety system will provide safe gas cooker.
This is an example to identify how the system would work, if a tap was opened, the switch implemented in the tap will give a signal to the MCU (Microcontroller) the MCU will wait for five seconds for the other signal from the heat sensor for the gas head that the tap was opened for if no signal comes after five seconds then the MCU will send a signal to the actuator to close the main supply pipe and light up a red light.
If someone would reset the system without closing the tap then the system would shut of the gas supply again. Thus it is a very effective safety system against children or people forgetting to light up the gas head.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig 1: shows the system block diagram.
Fig 2: shows a proposed way of implementing the system in the oven.
Fig 3: shows another way of implementing the actuator.
Fig 4: shows a proposed way of implementing the switch in the gas tap.
In figure one the whole system can be easily understood showing the inputs and outputs to the control circuit.
In figure 2 the heat sensors 3 are installed near the gas heads (any heat sensor can be used a resistive one or a relay or any other sensor). The tap sensors 2 are installed in the taps. The actuator 1 can be installed in the gas main supply pipe. The control circuit can be installed anywhere the furthest from heat, preferred to be below the oven as all heat will climb up. 5 is the red light or alarm signal and 6 is the reset switch. The diagram was drawn only for a 1 head gas cooker 7, the system can easily adapt to as many gas heads as possible and for a grill and an oven. The connections between the sensors, actuator, switch, alarm signal, and MCU are not shown in figure 2 because they were shown in figurrl.
In figure three the actuator 1 doesn't have to be put in the gas it can be put in between the connection of the cooker gas 7 and the user supply gas pipe 8 this might ease the implementation of the actuator.
In figure 4 this is showing one way of implementing the switch in the gas tap, but this would very much depend on the gas manufacturer way of implementing his gas taps.
Figure 4 shows a locking gas tap 10 that only moves when it is pressed inwards, which will keep it stuck inwards with the other wheel 11 this will cause the switch 9 to be pressed giving a signal to the MCU.
Claims (4)
1. A gas cooker safety system that uses heat sensors, tap sensors, a control circuit, an actuator, a warning light and a reset able switch.
2. A system as claimed in claim 1 that insures the safety of the user, if a gas tap was opened and gas was not lighted up for the specified gas head that the tap was opened for, then the system will shut off the main gas supply pipe and will light up a warning light.
3. A system as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, after solving the problem the user can reset the system.
4. A system as claimed in claim 3 where if the problem still exists the system will shut of again.
