Abstract

A packaging case consists of two cut and compressed hollows (4,5) and a centre crease line (2) for folding. When a product is inserted into the hollow sections of the case the natural ability of the material will provide the cushioning grip and strength required to transport the goods safely. The case is preferably made from honeycomb design board and may have self adhesive strips (3) for closing it.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
CASE PACK This invention relates to a packaging design, which provides extremely high levels of protection and shock absorbance for the product enclosed.
There are many packaging designs available on the market for the shipping of goods. Unfortunately to give the high level of protection often required to ensure minimal risk of damage, the make-up of the packaging in general has to either involve utilising more than one product, or be of a complex design, creating a lengthy assembly/packing time for the packer-filler.
The object of this invention is to provide the benefits high levels of protection for the units enclosed, while maintaining the benefits of a fast packing time.
This invention comprises of a one-piece packing case or housing that folds around the product being packed and holds it in its protected position. The product sits into a shaped void created by crushing or'punch-cutting'an area 4 & 5 of the case. The crushed or'punch-cut'area can be mirrored in shape for both 4 & 5 or shaped individually to match the product design to be housed.
The natural properties of the materials chosen provides the required cushioning and grip of the product to minimise movement and damage. The case can be inserted into a sleeve or wrap for enhanced presentation purposes.
Preferably the packaging is made of honeycomb design board, but can be made from other materials that provide the same grip and cushioning ability as this.
Figure 1 shows a 3-Dimensional view of the packaging slip Figure 2 shows the slip closed ready for despatch or insertion into a sleeve.
When not using a sleeve the slip can be sealed with self-adhesive strips or tape.
As shown in Figure1, the packing slip comprises of a one-piece honeycomb board (or other similar material) with a section cut and compressed on both sides for insertion of the product and a crease line through the centre to enable easy accurate folding. The case can either be inserted into a sleeve or sealed using self-adhesive tape, glue, or packing tape.
The procedure for packing is simplicity itself, the item is placed in the centre of the material. The slip is folded around the item utilising the existing marks. The cut out section provides firm but cushioned grip for the product. The item is either inserted into a sleeve or closed by using self-adhesive strips or packing tape.

As shown in figure 1, the case comprises of a one-piece board 1, with a score line 2 through the centre. There are optional self-adhesive strips 3 round external edge of one side. Two hollows 4 and 5 are cut and pressed into each side of the case. The choice of material allows the natural properties of the material to provide the grip and cushioning required to transport the goods during transport.
Figure 2 shows the case closed ready for enclosing into a slip or optionally sealed with the adhesive strips. The case can also be glued together or closed using packing tape if required.
The packaging is ideal for the transport of coffee table books, which are generally expensive to produce and purchase, and typically of heavy weights.
Traditional packing methods frequently leave these books with comer damage after transportation to the customer. This invention provides correct amount of grip and cushioning for the product enclosed, and will withstand knocks and drops with no resultant damage to the product.
