Abstract
A system for transmitting data by a plurality of routes where there is a possibility of a difference in timing of reception of data via different routes, e.g because of different transmission speeds, in which information indicative of the characteristics of at least one route is used to adjust the timing of transmission of data over at least one of the routes so as to synchronise the time of reception of data. In particular, there is disclosed a system for synchronising reception of an internet service in an internet transmission with an audio/video broadcast transmission, including an adaptive scheduler for determining network characteristics for the internet transmission and the audio/video broadcast transmission. The system provides synchronisation triggers for respective events of the internet service at timings relative to the broadcast transmission according to the determined network characteristics. End users receive the respective events of the internet service at a known synchronisation with respect to the received audio/video broadcast transmission.
