Abstract
237,617. Szczepanowski, S. P. July 22, 1925. Column stills and rectifiers.-A distilling apparatus is combined with an apparatus for separating the produced mixture of vapours into its constituents by the action of gravity. The liquid to be distilled enters the apparatus at 145 and flows downwards over the winding surface 146, in the lower heatinsulated portion of the column, until it falls into the space 147 which is heated by a furnace or heating coils. Steam or heater gas may also be passed into the liquid through the perforated pipe 149. The liquid descending the surface 146 is heated by the counter-current of ascending vapours, which pass on through the upper cooled portion of the apparatus, which is provided with a winding surface 151. The heavier condensates are collected at 156 - - 159, the lighter volatile fractions escaping at 153 - - 155.
