Abstract
237,418. Wolmer, (Palmer, R. C.), Viscount. July 4, 1924. Discharging. - In a hop-drying kiln or the like, the hops are supported upon a horsehair cloth 12 which is adapted to be wound upon a manually-driven roller 13 so as to discharge the dried hops upon a movable endless cooling band 17 located outside the kiln. After cooling, the hops are discharged from the band 17 on to a transversely travelling band 30 which conveys them to the bagging press 31. The cooling band is pivotally supported upon the roller 18 so that it may be raised when not required for use. In a modification, the cloth 12, Fig. 5, is passed over a guide roller 40 and then on to the winding roller 13, and the cooling band is arranged immediately beneath the roller 40. A brush 41 is provided for cleaning the cloth 12. Brushes may also be provided for cleaning the bands 17, 30. In another arrangement, a pivotally mounted brush is arranged adjacent to the roller 13.
