Abstract

236,998. Marks, E. C. R., (Drying Systems, Inc.). April 14, 1924. Ventilating shafts.-A duct for use in drying chambers is formed to give substantially an even flow of gases from it at each unit of its length and is of the form uniformly tapered lengthwise and provided with a longitudinal slot 8 for sideways flow of fluid. The slot is covered bv an apron 4 separated from the side 9 of the duct and provided with a wire-beaded top edge 7. The apron is also tapered lengthwise and the passage divided by partitions 10 and the parts are so shaped and disposed relatively that the local friction resisting flow sideways past the apron complements the duct friction to ensure the same sideways flow of fluid. The duct may be rolled from a sector-shaped blank to form a conical duct with covering apron 13 over aperture 11, Fig. 5. For a suction duct, the sideways entrance slots would be of the shape formed by an apron 16, as shown in Fig. 9.
