Abstract

A torsion spring is fitted externally to a lever-operated tap, faucet or valve to cause the lever to return to a closed position after use. The torsion spring fits around the body of the tap and has hooked ends, one of which fits round the lever and the other round a spout or discharge tube of the tap so that the torsion spring is put under tension when the lever is turned to an open position, and returns the lever to a closed position when the lever is released. The torsion spring may be manufactured in hand and opposite hand to accommodate clockwise and anti-clockwise opening taps.

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> DESCRIPTION FAIL SAFE SHUTOFF ATTACHMENT (FAIL SAFE SHUTOFF ATTACHMENT) IS A TORSION SPRING MADE FROM STAINLESS SPRING STEEL, OR, SPRING STEEL COATED OR ELECTRO PLATED (TO STOP RUSTING).
IT IS FITTED EXTERNALLY TO LEVER OPERATED TAPS, FOSSETS OR VALVES. THE SPRING IS HOOKED AT EACH END, AND FITS OVER THE VERTICAL BODY OF THE TAP. THE BOTTOM HOOK FIXES ROUND THE SPOUT (DISCHARGE TUBE) WHILST THE TOP HOOK FIXES ROUND THE LEVER PUTTING IT UNDER TENSION WHEN IN OPEN POSITION, THUS RETURNING THE LEVER TO THE CLOSED POSITION WHEN RELEASED.
SOME TAPS (OR VALVES) OPEN IN A CLOCKWISE DIRECTION WHILST OTHER ANTICLOCKWISE SO THE ATTACHMENT WOULD BE MANUFACTURED IN HAND. AND OPPOSITE HAND/TURNING OFF FROM RIGHT TO LEFT AND TURNING OFF FROMLEFT TO RIGHT. THESE ATTACHMENTS WOULD STOP THE FLOW OF WATER OR OTHER LIQUIDS. IIVIMEDIATELY.

Claims (4)

  1. CLAIM 1. Fail-safe shut off attachment is a torsion spring.
  2. 2. Fail safe shut off attachment as in claim No. 1 which can be fitted externally to taps (valves). See drawing No. 1.
  3. 3. Fail-safe shut off attachment as in claim Nos. 1 and 2 can be fitted to existing taps (valves) already commissioned.
  4. 4. Fail-safe shut off attachment as in claim No. 3 can be removed and refitted as required.
