Abstract

236,664. Read, W. H., and Clement, R. April 11, 1924. Ash-pits; air supply, regulating.-The ash-pit of a bakers' oven or like furnace is provided with an air admission opening extending along the side or back thereof in addition to the usual opening provided by the ash-pit door in order to reduce the velocity of air flowing through the door, shutters or dampers being provided to regulate the admission of air. As shown in Fig. 2, the side wall of the ash-pit is provided with openings 4 controlled by a shutter 5 having corresponding openings 6. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the ash-pit wall is provided with a slot 7 controlled by a pivoted plate 8. Two or more rows of slots 4 with shutters 5 or slots 7 with plates 8 may be provided. The reduction in the velocity of the air may be assisted by increasing the depth of the ash-pit.
