Abstract

A winch eg. a vehicle recovery device is portable, uses a strap (2) and a removable wheel bar (1). It is driven by the vehicles wheel which is slipping. The portable wheel bar (1) can fit any vehicle and any vehicles wheels. The strap (2) is wound under the vehicles wheel using the vehicles power and means the vehicle need not be lifted in any way nor any other power source needed. The strap (2) can be removed from the portable wheel bar (1) if necessary. Preferably, an anchor (5) in the form of a bag is provided to aid recovery, the bag having a strap (7) connected to strap (2) via fastening (4). The bag is preferably filled with soil, stones, etc to act as an anchor.
